Cats VS Rats This project involved creating several accordion book illustrations featuring a battle between cats and rats. The story begins with two sleeping cats in a peaceful scene, and as the scene expands, the cats rest together in a calm environment surrounded by familiar objects such as toys.
The story then transforms and as the pages expand, the composition shifts, separating the cats and revealing a more dramatic horror-fantasy narrative filled with symbolic and unexpected elements, including wizard-like mice, mysterious objects, and darker imagery.
The final chapter introduces a sense of opposition and perspective. The mice represent a reimagining of creatures often feared and villainized, highlighting them as living beings navigating a world dominated by predators. Their presence challenges the idea of blame and perception, where they are frequently cast as intruders despite the imbalance of power in their environment.
Overall, the work explores themes of magic, mystery, and duality within the nature of cats and rats, blending playful and satirical elements with darker fantasy undertones. The final piece was created in black and white ink to emphasize a stark, illustrative horror aesthetic, with the accordion format allowing for a layered and expansive visual narrative.
